25 November - 10 December 2023: 16 Days of Activism Pledge

The Caledon Museum in partnership with the Caledon Library, Badisa Caledon, Beyond Black Mountain and Emoji Movement, will be visiting local communities to create awareness surrounding the subject matter.

• 27 November 2023, Vlei View, 09:00 am - 11:00 am
• 01 December 2023, Uitsig, 09:00 am - 11:00 am
• 04 December 2023, Myddleton, 09:00 am - 11:00 am

Stakeholders will be engaging with the above-mentioned communities by handing out information pamphlets and bookmarks, while also inviting all men to read, understand, and sign a Campaign Pledge. This signed pledge will be on display at the Caledon Library and Caledon Museum during the 16-day period, thereafter the signed pledge will be stored in the Caledon Museum Archives.

Sign the pledge online here: Afrikaans Version and English Version

The Pledge:

• I recognize that violence against women and children is the manifestation of a profound lack of respect - a failure by us to recognize the inherent equality and dignity of women and children and that it is a violation of their fundamental human rights.
• I acknowledge the adverse effects violence has on the country.
• I acknowledge the profound psychological and physical trauma violence has on women and children, their families and on communities.
• I acknowledge the impact violence has on economic growth, and reducing the quality of life for all.
• I therefore commit to playing my part in ending Gender-Based Violence, by being a positive role model, a mentor and not allowing any form of violence to take place without doing something about it.
• I commit to ensuring safer communities for women.
• I commit to building a safer future for our children.
• I commit to being part of the change. I say enough is enough!

Stakeholders will also capture this initiative through photographs in which community members will hold up a reading sign supportive of the campaign.

E.g. End gender-based violence, enable change and/or no violence against women and children. All photographic material will form part of a community compilation video for social media, to be published on the 16th Day of Activism.

Stakeholders will also be handing out white ribbons to commemorate this campaign.
