Grootbos Foundation's Insect Collection Competition

We're thrilled to announce the results of our recent competition held by the Conservation Research team. The challenge? To guess the total number of pinned insects in the Grootbos entomology collection over the past six years. And the winner is... Mike Fabricius!

Mike's guess was closest to the mark, as our total count revealed an impressive 59,890 pinned insects. Each one meticulously collected, photographed, and added to our baseline collection, contributing valuable insights into the diverse insect life within the fynbos ecosystem.

But our journey of discovery doesn't end here. With such a vast collection at our disposal, there's still so much more to uncover and learn. That's why we're excited to collaborate with external expert researchers who specialize in specific species interests. Together, we'll delve deeper into this rich repository of knowledge, unlocking new insights and understanding for the benefit of conservation efforts in our beloved fynbos habitat.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the competition, and a special congratulations to Mike Fabricius! Your support and enthusiasm fuel our ongoing commitment to preserving and celebrating the natural wonders of Grootbos.
