This week we take a look back at the history of our beloved town of Gansbaai. Exactly 162 years ago on Wednesday, 26 February 2014, the coast of Gansbaai saw the floundering of the HMS Birkenhead. Thus this week we dedicate to the 450 lives lost and sacrificed that fateful night.
The Birkenhead Memorial is being held on Wednesday, including an early morning boat ride to the site where the remainder of the Birkenhead lies hidden underneath the waves at Danger Point. In the evening there will be a presentation and talk about the Birkenhead and its sunken treasures at the Great White House in Kleinbaai.
