Suicide in Pearly Beach
At about 14:35 on Monday, 1 April 2024 a 49-year-old female from Pearly Beach shot herself. It is alleged that she was on medication. Her husband heard a gunshot while he was smoking outside. He went inside and found his wife lying on the floor in her bedroom. He took her left arm to feel if there was any pulse but there was nothing. The firearm, a revolver, was lying on the floor in front of her. She was declared dead on the scene by Overstrand Medical Rescue (OMR).
Murder in Mount Pleasant, Hermanus
Three suspects were arrested after a murder in Freezia Street, Mount Pleasant, Hermanus on Sunday, 31 March 2024 at about 01:50. Residents of Fleezia Street saw a young African male lying in the street. They saw that he was bleeding and phoned the ambulance. The man died shortly afterwards. The deceased was 23 years of age and a resident at Zwelihe, Hermanus. It was established, through investigation, that the deceased attended a party at Mount Pleasant, Hermanus, where his ex-girlfriend stays. They have a child together, and the ex-girlfriend has a new boyfriend. The deceased was apparently warned not to attend the party. He ignored the warning and attended anyway. He departed from the party sometime before 02:00, and the murder occurred shortly afterwards. He was found still in possession of his values (watch, jewellery, etc.). Three suspects (16, 19 and 23 years of age) were detained and are being questioned. Two sets of clothing with blood stains were seized and will be tested for DNA. The 19-year-old suspect is the new boyfriend. The murder weapon/s is still outstanding. The motive of the murder is suspected to be jealousy.
