Vanjaar is dit die NG Vrouediens van Gansbaai se NG-gemeente se beurt om as gasheer van die Wêreldbiddag vir Vroue op te tree, wat in sowat 170 lande sal plaasvind.
“Almal vanuit alle kerklike demoninasies is welkom om hierdie spesiale geleentheid by te woon,” sê Elcine Hulme van die NG Vrouediens. Die byeenkoms sal op Vrydag, 7 Maart om 09:00 in die Pretoriussaal plaasvind. Hierdie besonderse dag se ontstaan was reeds 127 jaar gelede toe ‘n groep vroue van die Presbiteriaanse Kerk in die VSA deur die nood van immigrante en die nagevolge van die vrystelling van slawe aangegryp is. Hulle het ‘n oproep vir ‘n Nasionale Dag van Gebed gedoen.
Hierdie aksie het vinnig na ander lande versprei en die eerste byeenkoms in Suid-Afrika het 84 jaar gelede in Maart 1930 in die Suidpuntse Congregational Kerk plaasgevind. In 1946 is ‘n Nasionale Komitee vir Suidelike Afrika in die lewe geroep, met verskeie kerke wat genomineer is. Sedertdien staan dit as “Wêreldbiddag vir Vroue” bekend wat tans in sowat 1,200 plekke in Suidelike Afrika plaasvind, asook in sowat 170 lande.
