Winter at Grootbos - A Season of Renewal

Winter rains bring out the very best at beautiful Grootbos. The lodge gardens, carefully landscaped with indigenous plants, mirror the untouched fynbos landscape of the region.

Captured last week by our Conservation Director, Sean Privett, the wild fynbos is in full splendour with Erica irregularis blooming across an area rejuvenated by a controlled burn just two years ago. Nature thrives under careful stewardship!

Our dedicated biodiversity steward teams continue their vital work in invasive plant clearing. Once dense with species like myrtle and Port Jackson, these areas are now recovering, bursting with indigenous flowers and pollinator activity.

Among the highlights spotted this week:

Drosera cistiflora in bloom with a visiting monkey beetle.

Geissorhiza ovata - a feast for the eyes.

Aristea spiralis in striking colour.

Roella ciliata in soft blue hues.

Syncarpha canescens with a delicate flower beetle visitor.

Gladiolus gracilis - the showstopper of the week.

Every flower tells a story of resilience, biodiversity, and the importance of conservation.
