Learning to Float, Learning to Thrive

As we approach the end of the year, the Enterprise&Entrepreneurship team decided to offer a 'Managing Money' workshop for the staff at Grootbos and Grootbos Foundation. The enthusiasm of this training team and the expertise they offer make this workshop valuable for everyone.

What happened at lunch time? Conservationist Kgomotoso while confident in water , expressed to the Grootbos coaching team that she couldn't tread water.

Treading water is important for water safety and survival, as it allows you to stay afloat with your head above the water while waiting for help, conserving energy in an emergency. It is also a valuable physical exercise that builds leg and core strength and improves endurance, and it enhances confidence and awareness in deep water.

Water safety is a life saving skill which our coaches can share with adult staff from the Grootbos family.

Conservationist Happiness started her water safety journey right at the beginning and focused on floating to overcome her fears.

Floating is important in swimming because it provides safety, helps conserve energy, improves body position and technique, and builds confidence in the water.

It is a fundamental skill that allows a person to stay afloat and breathe, which is crucial for survival in emergencies and a foundation for efficient swimming.

Today saw the 2nd Lesson of Pair Floating at the Shewana Surf Therapy programme that uses tidal pools and rock pools to teach swimming and coping skills. This group includes participants with deep fear of water and the ocean so rebuilding a relationship with water is important.

The objective today was to achieve floating on their own without physical support.

From all of us, we wish you a delightful weekend.
