Gratitude After the Gansbaai–Stanford Fynbos Fire

Thank you for the kind messages of concern and care this week as an early summer fynbos fire burned between Gansbaai and Stanford, at times dying down and then flaring up again resulting in road closures between villages and an extended period of no electricity in Gansbaai and beyond.

We are grateful for the dedication and commitment of the Grootbos fire team as well as to neighbours, fire crews from Overstrand Municipality, Overberg District, NCC, VWS and goFPA... as well as to local volunteers who kept the fire crews fed and hydrated.

In the midst of the fiery week, one of our fire response team members noticed this beautiful Southern Marbled Emperor moth - a new record for the area.

Isn't it just a lovely winged creature? The multi-tool is for size comparison.
