Fynbos Resilience: Lessons from Fire

On Thursday, we hosted our second Sundowner Session at Waterkop. Thank you to those who joined us.

This month’s topic was Fire, specifically Lessons from a few fires. Sean Privett spoke on the resilience of the fynbos landscape and the exciting regrowth that occurs after these naturally occurring fires. And a reminder - it is not just the indigenous fynbos that thrives after a fire, but also the invasive plants which steal the post-fire opportunity to grow without restriction. This is an opportunity and a worry. Through collaboration and concerted conservation efforts, invasive plant clearing in the next few years will have the potential to massively reduce the overall threat of these invasive plant species.
