Mental Health and Coping Skills Programme in Blompark
We are currently running a 4-week series of weekly sessions as part of a pilot project with Ikamva, a health services non-profit in Blompark's Community-Based Treatment programme. These sessions focus on mental health and coping skills for participants working through substance use challenges. In our first session, we explored the “Circle of Control”, understanding what is within our control and what is not. Participants worked with playdough to create something they could shape and change, representing the things in life we can influence. They were then given a stone, which could not be shaped or changed, helping to illustrate the things outside of our control. Using simple, hands-on activities helps make these important concepts easier to understand and reflect on.
