Your Ideas Wanted for New Whale Centre
Hermanus - the world’s best land-based whale-watching capital - is set to become home to the new South African Whale Centre (SAWC).
The Old Harbour Museum, in partnership with the University of Pretoria’s Whale Unit, is planning to transform the existing Whale House Museum into a world-class facility featuring immersive 3D experiences, interactive exhibits, and augmented reality that brings whale behaviour and migration to life.
But before final plans are set, the South African Whale Centre Development Team wants to hear your dream for the new centre.

Overstrand Executive Mayor, Archie Klaas encourages everyone to share their boldest ideas. “This is your town - you know its stories, its people, and its spirit. Now’s your chance to help shape a space that speaks to locals and wows the world,” he said.
