The Old Barn Transformation at De Uijlenes
A little history…
The Old Barn is one of our most loved venues here at De Uijlenes, tucked away on our working farm just outside Gansbaai. With its wooden beams, vintage charm, and loads of character, it’s been home to hundreds of beautiful celebrations over the years.
But as it was once an old farm stoor, the floor wasn’t exactly made for all the dancing and foot traffic that comes with a proper wedding party! Over time, moisture from the high water table caused damage, and it was time for some serious fixing.
So, we got to work. And like most renovation stories… one small job turned into a big makeover!
The Makeover
What started as a simple flooring project became a full transformation of the Old Barn, and we’re thrilled with how it’s turned out. Once the old floors came up, we knew it was the perfect time to refresh the space while keeping that rustic, farm feel that makes it so special.
Here’s what’s new:
New waterproofed flooring - no more moisture issues, just a smooth, strong surface ready for dining, dancing, and celebrations.
• New entrance doors - for a warmer welcome and better guest flow.
• Lowered stage area - opening up the space for dinners, dancing, or even indoor ceremonies.
• Arched feature window - a stunning focal point and the perfect Plan B ceremony spot when it rains.
• Forest scene wall mural - adding magic and tying the space back to our forest surroundings.
• Floor lighting - creating that soft, romantic glow for the evening.
• Fresh paint and new garden beds - brightening up the outside and giving guests a lush welcome.
The heart of the Old Barn is still the same, warm, rustic, and full of stories, but now with a fresh new look that makes it even more beautiful. It’s the perfect mix of farm-style charm and modern touches, ready for many more unforgettable celebrations.
