Sport Changing Lives in Gansbaai

For some, Grootbos Foundation is best known for our work in conservation and in fynbos, but for a larger part of the community, Sport and coaching is how Grootbos Foundation is best known. The Spaces for Sport facility in Gansbaai is a cornerstone of the Gansbaai, Blompark and Masakhane communities. Children know that every weekday, they can head to the field and they will find fun, safe activities and a nutritious meal with trained adults. This programme is less about sport and more about creating safe spaces and cultivating hope in communities where a young person's future may seem uncertain. Join us on Thursday, 30 April at 5:30 pm at Waterkop to find out about our Sports development programme and the human impact this programme has in the region. Entry: R100 donation. RSVP to penelope@grootbosfoundation.org or phil@grootbosfoundation.org before 29 April.

This is a photo from the Cross Country Meet that took place in Swellendam. Participants have to attend a minimum of 6 Meets to be eligible for selection for the District or Regional teams. Our fingers are crossed.

This photograph is from a Grassroots Soccer lesson with a Grade 6 of Masakhane Primary School being led by 2 Grootbos coaches, Mesuli and Danver. Grassroots Soccer is an HIV/AiDS Awareness Programme. The curriculum is designed to fit into the Grade 6 Physical & Social Well-being Curriculum.

The Boys Hockey team played against Curro Hermanus this week and lost 1 - 2. This early-season loss taught the team many lessons and put a fire in their bellies to work hard together. They can't wait to play their next match.
