The family oriented Funky Fynbos Festival now has a main sponsor. We were looking for a branding sponsor, like ABSA in the ABSA Cape Epic. The new sponsor, Rockets, a Cape Town based sports clothing brand that includes Mohair clothing and socks for sportsmen and women, compression clothing and sports bracing products, has come on board for three years.
The Festival is now branded the “Rockets Funky Fynbos Festival” (www.funkyfynbos.co.za) and we are both pleased and proud to have a generous sponsor like Rockets on board with us (http://www.rocketsrange.com/). Their contribution to Gansbaai and Tourism in Gansbaai is invaluable and much appreciated. Huge thanks to Paula Damaskinos, one of our committee members, of Bodhi Khaya, for finding them and a few other important sponsors!
Thanks to all of the other sponsors and participants in the Festival. They have seen the value of contributing to the creation of permanent attractions in Gansbaai as well as the evolution of a sustainable series of events in the greater Gansbaai area that will attract tourists to the area in the future. The Festival and its long term spin offs will benefit every one of the businesses in Gansbaai.

Because of the sponsorships, we have been able to make entry to the Festival free this year, so that more Gansbaaiers can enjoy their Festival.
The key objective of the Festival is to create awareness of the other attractions in Gansbaai and to assist tourists to the area to have a great time here and to tell their friends to come and enjoy themselves in our unspoiled environment.
We have learnt that weather plays an important part in the success of any Gansbaai festival and have gone out of our way to make the Festival as weather proof as possible. Many of the activities will be indoors and out of the weather!!!
The hub of the Festival is in the beautiful Uilkraals valley at De Uiljenes. Here there will be the spectacular Fynbos display, the start and finish of the Mountain Bike and Trail Run events, DJ and bands, food and drink, and children’s activities.
There are three Mountain Bike races, over 41km, 30km and 10 km and three Trail Run Races, including a King of the Mountain on the 30km, a 10 km and a 6 Km that will traverse the Platbos Forest.

Craft stalls will be De Uiljenes, and there will be ample parking and The Funky Fynbos Festival invites all market traders to contact us to book a space now for our upcoming festival. The market area will be mostly under cover under a Bedouin tent or bring your own gazebo. The festival core will be in the farming area of Uilkraals Valley where the MTB and trail runs will start and finish. The Flower Power 4 X 4, central hub will be at Strandskloof Caravan Park, where the entries, food and refreshments will be done in the shed. The Flower Power is a charity event organised by Woens Basson. From here, guides will take participants to the various venues. Members of the public can buy a ticket for R50.00 and accompany the 4 X 4 participants in a vehicle if they do not have their own 4 X 4 and want to be part of the experience.
Children’s activities will be available at Platbos Forest, Strandskloof Caravan Park, Flower Valley Conservation Trust, and De Uiljenes.
A golf competition will be held at the Gansbaai Golf Club, where entrants can play on the Southernmost Golf course in South Africa.
