Agri Mega Group se 2de Cape Floral Kingdom Ekspo te Mega Park, Bredasdorp, was weer eens ‘n lus vir die natuurliefhebber om te aanskou. Die uitstalling is vanaf 28 tot 31 Augustus aangebied en, onlangs ‘n paar ernstige reën en wind dae, was dit ‘n reuse sukses.

Etlike uitstallers het deelgeneem en die plasing van alles, asook die bou van die Fynbosareas met ‘n pragtige waterval, het onder die bekwame leiding van Adriaan Hanekom en die res van die organiseerders geskied. Waardevolle inligting is deur die besoekers bekom, veral ook met spesifieke aanbiedinge op vasgestelde tye. Die kompetisie vir blommerangskikkings was fenominaal met ‘n groot verskeidenheid van kategorieë, vanaf tradisionele fynbosrangskikkings tot by ultra-moderne rangskikkings. Die Cape Floral Kingdom is een van slegs ses blomme-koninkryke (floral kingdoms), met dié van die Wes-Kaap wat as die kleinste, maar rykste area beskou word, met 1,300 spesies per 10,000 vk km. Meer as 7,700 plantspesies word hier aangetref, waarvan ±70% inheems is, wat beteken dit word nêrens elders in die wêreld gevind nie. Die grootste spesie-familie in getalle, is die Asteraceae (daisy family), met net minder as 1,000 spesies, waarvan meer as 600 inheems is.

“The biodiversity of this region brings with it enormous economical and biological potential. If managed wisely, it can sustain many livelihoods. The sheer beauty of this area makes tourism an obvious draw card, but the true potential of the Cape Floral Kingdom reaches far beyond tourism,” het Rudi Visser, Voorsitter van die komitee gesê, en afgesluit met die woorde: “Gaan Bos…..Gaan Fynbos!”
