Franskraal Bowls news

Gansbaai Courant

On Saturday 20th September, Franskraal Bowl’s club played host to a sponsored open trips competition.  In all 12 teams competed to be the winners of this competition.  Our sponsors of  the  day  were Build-It, Guthrie and Theron  and  JLR  Associates.  More about our sponsors later.

With visiting teams from Hermanus, Caledon and Kleinmond and perfect weather conditions for bowls, the players arrived at the club to enjoy a beautiful day in the company of fellow bowlers.  After the President welcomed all players, Archie Chambers read the conditions of play. Three rounds of 12 heads were to be played with the first round being that of teams drawn to play one another.  The second and third rounds were played on a strength against strength format.

All games were played in the true spirit of sportsmanship and in a very competitive manner.  Great bowls was played by all, and players set out to play the best bowls they were capable of for their teams.  The green was abuzz with the players urging their teammates on to play winning shots.  And try they did, as no team wanted to be in the last position at the end of the day.

After the second round the top teams battled it out to become the victors on the day.  That honor went to the team from Caledon with Peter Quinn (Skip), Brasler van Schoor and Bryan Chambers.  Second place went to the team of Archie Chambers (Franskraal) and in third place was the team of Mell Knox (Franskraal).  The hamper in the lucky draw was won by Agnes Kruger.

In all a wonderful day was had by all players.  This would not have been possible without the continued support of our loyal sponsors.  We owe a lot to the three sponsors Buildit, Guthrie and Theron and JLR Associates. Our heartfelt thanks go to you for always being willing to help our club to be able to organize days like these. Without you, this day would not have been possible.  Thank you so much!  We, at Franskraal Bowls Club, appreciate it.

Last but by no means least, my heartfelt thanks to all the members  of  Franskraal Bowls Club who worked so hard behind the scenes to make a success of this day.

Archie Chambers, our Club Captain, for his massive role to ensure that everything was organized for the day and Jan Fouche whom assisted him  with  the organization. To Una Conradie for controlling the scorecards  and determining the final points standing.   To Marie Pretorius (convener),  Adri Bester  and  Sip  Groenewald for the preparation of the sandwiches for tea and also preparing the main meal for lunch.  You really spoilt us with the delicious food and kept up the high standard we at our club have become accustomed to.  Thank you so much!  To Tommie van Niekerk, our green keeper, Johan Fick and Christopher Malec, in attendance, for the preparation of the green before play.  You did a wonderful job boys!

Then a special thank you to the chaps that manned the “22nd End” and looking after all the thirsty bowlers and also Kristo Jooste, our treasurer, who saw to the financial side on the day. Job well done chaps!    So, until the next time, “Keep the bowls rolling”.
