On Tuesday the 7th, Franskraal Bowls Club hosted our annual sponsored open Ladies Day Trips. This day is also our clubs annual Breast Cancer awareness day. We were honoured to welcome nine visiting teams to this competition. The visiting teams were, L’Agulhas (3), Hermanus (3), Caledon (2), Kleinmond (1) and five teams from FBC made up the rest of the competing fourteen teams. Our sponsor on the day was Christie Groenewald, one of our most loyal sponsors, who has been sponsoring this event for many years. We are very grateful that she is always willing to be the sponsor of this very important day on the bowling calendar of FBC.
The dress code for the day was pink with even the men kitted out in pink aprons and shirts. Pink ribbons were pinned to each playing member, and helpers, to remind us of the threat of breast cancer to women. The players were welcomed to FBC by our Vice President, Jane de Villiers. She, together with Mattie Neethling, reminded the ladies of the importance of regular breast check-ups to counter Breast Cancer.
The winners of the tournament was the team of Ina Trollop from L’Agulhas. Second placed was the team of Anneke Thorpe from Hermanus and third place went to the team of Betsie Schreuder from FBC. Congratulations to all partaking teams for playing excellent bowls.
The men of FBC stepped up to the plate and went all out to spoil the ladies rotten. From the welcoming bread table at the start of the day to the sandwiches at tea were prepared by our men. Victor Breach was in charge of the delicious starter at lunch. The main meal was prepared by Gert Pretorius and Fred Rossouw. It consisted of chicken kebabs, grilled on the outside braai by Johan Fick and Roelof Eksteen, and this was complimented with potato- and carrot salads. The meal was ended with a delicious chocolate pudding and cream sauce made by Jo-Anna Seeman. In all a wonderful meal was had by all.
Many of our male members did a lot of work in preparing for this event. Everything from the preparation of the green for play, serving at the tables, and doing duty at “The 22nd End” was done to make this special day for your ladies, a memorable event. Thank you chaps, your efforts are much appreciated. A special word of thanks to Una Conradie for making beautiful key rings and table decorations as gifts for each of the ladies partaking in this event. This really was a wonderful gesture Una, thank you ever so much. This and many wonderful moments helped to make this a memorable day, with bowling friends spending time together and enjoying each other’s company while playing the sport they love.
Till next time: “Keep the bowls rolling”.
