Taurus Chemicals Cape Kelp (Pty) Ltd het op 13 Maart 2015 geskiedenis gemaak met die oorhandiging van 26% van die maatskappy se belange aan hulle swart werknemers. “Die Taurus Cape Kelp Empowerment Trust is ‘n tyd gelede gestig met die doel om werknemers wat aan die kriteria voldoen, tot aandeelhouers op te hef,” vertel Adéle Geldenhuys, Algemene Bestuurder. “Die werknemers was wel bewus van die Trust wat geskep is, maar die oorhandiging van die aandele is as ‘n verrassing vir hulle gehou.” Afhangende van die aantal diensjare van werknemers, word “punte”, na gelang van die wins, aan hulle toegeken. Hierdie “punte” is dan aan finansiële waardes gekoppel, wat dan veel meer lonend as net salarisse sal wees. Die maatskappy is ook bekend vir gemeenskapsbetrokkenheid, met onder andere ten bate van Gansbaai Academia en Masakhane Créche. Die volgende mediaverklaring is deur die Algemene Bestuurder, Adéle Geldenhuys, saamgestel: “Taurus Chemicals Cape Kelp (Pty) Ltd has been in the seaweed industry since the 1970’s. Our company collects seaweed found on the local beaches and harvest seaweed from the ocean. We are situated in the industrial area in Gansbaai and known all around as The Seaweed People.
We also contribute towards our local community like for example Gansbaai Academia and the crèche in Masakhane. Our company has formed a trust, The Taurus Cape Kelp Empowerment Trust, to reward the black workers who have been with Taurus Chemicals Cape Kelp (Pty) Ltd for two years and longer and who have thus proved themselves to be loyal and dedicated to the company. 26% of our company now belongs to our black workers. This was the final step in the long process started 10 years ago to get the workers involved in the ownership of the company. It was also formed to retain, recruit and motivate the employees of the company to achieve superior performance and to remain loyal to the company and its business which will, ultimately, benefit the growth of the company. Friday the 13th March 2015, 22 beneficiaries of the TTCKET (short for The Taurus Cape Kelp Empowerment Trust) received their first benefit payout. As the trust is for employees who have worked two years and longer for the company, many more beneficiaries will be able to benefit from TTCKET next year. Our Managing Director, Mrs Wendy Ruscoe was present to hand out the beneficiaries their beneficiaries’ payout and to congratulate them on their years with the company.
