The Gansbaai Tourism Youth Committee under the leadership of Elzaan van Lill held a planning session earlier in the year and one of the members proposed holding a talent show on the 18th of July. This would give the opportunity for the youngsters to showcase their talents.

Posters designed by the youth group were put up around town, adverts placed on their facebook and  entry forms distributed. There was a lot of interest from afar afield as Pearly Beach but on the day there were only 8 entries. None the less the group of youngsters who entered either as individuals or as groups had a great time. The line-up included rap, drama, mime-acts and lots of dance.

Lynette van Wyk offered to be one of the judges and she was quite amazed at the high standard of the perfor-mances. In the end it was impossible to “judge” and declare “winners” as each act was just so different that each participant received a monetary gift. Lynette was kind enough to give each participant some ideas and advice and she offered her services to assist where needed. Ntobeko is an enthusiastic entertainer but more than that a teacher. He has a group of ballroom dancers that he teaches in the  afternoons in  the tourism conference hall and he assists the primary school in Masakhane with their choir. Ally Msweli, the tourism intern, made a great DJ and showed some talents that we did not know he had! The sound was provided by Riaan van Lill and appreciation to him for his patience.

Thanks to Gansbaai Scoops for vouchers which were handed out as tokens of appreciation to the helpers. All in all a great afternoon, enjoyed by all and hopefully one of many …!
