Men’s Chosen Pairs

On Tuesday 29 September 12 teams of chosen men’s pairs arrived at a cool and damp Franskraal Bowls Club. All were greeted with a hot beverage as President Pieter Conradie welcomed them and introduced Jaco Swart the Club Captain to discuss the format and rules for the competition.

The teams were divided into 3 sections of 4 teams. Each team played the other 3 teams in their section. Play started on B Green East – West for the first 2 games with a break in between. This was followed by a drink from the bar and a packed up lunch as the green was turned North – South for the final section games on the day. The 3 section winners were as follows:-

• Section 1             Marius de Wit & Pieter Conradie

• Section 2             Tommie van Niekerk & Christie Swart

• Section 3             Archie Chambers & Kristo Jooste

Play was scheduled to resume the following day, Wednesday 30 September but was postponed due to the wet weather. Intermittent play continued on Thursday 1 and Saturday 3 October, as each team played the other 2 teams alongside the ladies, and was eventually only completed on Saturday 17 October due to an earlier injury suffered by Kristo Jooste and the final men’s results were as follows:-

• 2nd place Silver medallists were Tommie van Niekerk & Christie Swart

• 1st place Gold medallists were Marius de Wit & Pieter Conradie

Ladies’ Chosen Pairs

On Saturday 3 October 5 ladies teams of chosen pairs arrived together with some of the men’s pairs finalists and all were welcomed. The rules were the same as for the men previously and were duly re-explained by Club Captain Jaco Swart. The 5 ladies teams each played all the other teams on a “Round Robin” basis with a bye each. Play started on B Green East – west for the first 2 games with a break in between. During the lunch break B Green was turned North – South for the 3rd set of games on the day.  The next set of games were played partly on Tuesday 6 October and eventually completed on Wednesday 14 October due to the wet weather as well as to the availability of some of the ladies with other commitments and the eventual final results were as follows:-

• 2nd place Silver medallists were Hettie Lass & Dina Jooste

• 1st place Gold Medallists were Betsie Schreuder & Sonja Chambers

Congratulations to all the winners and a very BIG THANK YOU to all the participants.
