The Pearly Beach Conservancy/Bewarea would like to see young people grow their appreciation for nature and the environment. For this purpose the group recently organized an afternoon event with the very competent assistance of Jeanette Xanini of the Eluxolweni satellite library. About sixty youngsters ranging from preschoolers to high school learners participated.
Jason Stonehewer from the Conservancy, who is an accredited nature guide, entertainingly engaged the attention of the incredibly enthusiastic young crowd. He asked them to identify all kinds of animals living in and around Pearly Beach and explained how they make up a very sensitive and intricate food web of which people also form a part.
At the end of the session, the children were treated to some well-deserved snacks donated by Sheryll Steyn and Susanne Fuchs of the Conservancy. The Conservancy Committee would like to thank the Eluxolweni community for providing their hall as the venue and hopes to organize more events of this kind in collaboration with the satellite library in future.
