Starting the New Year off with a big bang, we have a full line-up of Events happening in Gansbaai and surrounds. The various events range from adrenalin pumping races to small community gatherings to some of the most popular music festivals in the Overberg.
After easing our way through January, we kick February off with the fast-paced Lighthouse to Lighthouse Mountain Bike Race. Taking place over the course of two days, the race starts off at the Danger Point Lighthouse and ends off at the Agulhas Lighthouse. This event takes place: 7 - 8 February 2014.
We end February off with remembering one of the most historic events of the area on the Birkenhead Memorial Evening. Join us for a day of commemoration as we stand in awe of the brave men whose actions led to one of the most important protocols in the world. This event takes place: 26 February 2014.
Keeping the environment close to our hearts, we dedicate a whole week in March to our tuxedo’d feathered friend, the African Penguin. Waddling for a Week aims to create awareness for these smartly dressed marine birds and participation in any way is strongly encouraged. The hikes start off at the Tourism Bureau in Gansbaai and reaches Simon’s Town’s Boulder Beach on the last day. This event takes place: 10 - 15 March 2014. Adding some culture into the mix, we invite friends and family to join in the biggest music festival on the calendar, the Kreef Derby (Crayfish Derby). This wildly popular festival sees an abundance of local music talent, freshly caught, cooked and baked foods and a general ambience of festiveness and community every year! Join us for the “makietie” of the year hosted on the Gansbaai Laerskool School Grounds. This event takes place: 19 April 2014.
Getting the creative juices flowing our local artists in Baardskeerdersbos gather forces twice a year to offer up a weekend of great art and great food. Enjoy the creation and showcasing of world-renown art inspired by the natural landscapes of the area. The Baardskeerdersbos Art Route takes place on 19 - 20 April and again on 25 - 26 October 2014.
Keeping up spirits there are a number of great basaars and markets taking place throughout the year and throughout the area. Featuring local arts and crafts and of course, local organic cuisine and produce these social events are not to be missed.
And as the year draws to a close, go big in the last sports event of the year. The Danger Point Half Marathon starts off early on New Year’s Eve morning and takes you on the perfect visual and physical adventure to end off the year. Leading you along the Gansbaai coastline, through endless fields of Fynbos and past the many shipwrecks that litter our shallow waters, the race will take your breath away in more ways than one. This event takes place: 31 December 2014.
