STORIES FROM OUR ECOSYSTEM
A study by Nelson Mandela University found that artificial nests can increase breeding rates of critically endangered African penguins.
Our recent Marine Evening welcomed guest speaker, Dr Anton Wolfaardt, Project Manager of the Mouse-Free Marion Project, who presented a powerful vision for Marion Island - a South African sub-Antarctic treasure.
At each deployment, oceanic conditions will be monitored, and one will host a temperature monitor to provide details on the temperature range across depths and ecosystems.
Initial observations and measurements were made, identifying the shark as a male individual at 2.28m. A cousin of the Great white shark, these sharks can reach lengths of 4m and are the fastest known shark species with sprinting capabilities just shy of 75km/h.
