Building Knowledge, Celebrating Biodiversity!
Last month, the Grootbos Environmental Centre proudly hosted DIPoDIP’s 6th Entomological Training Course - an inspiring gathering of passionate learners and leading experts in the field of Diptera.
Participants, including our very own Happiness and Kgomotso, received hands-on training from experienced museum scientists, learning the correct techniques for collecting, pinning, and identifying flies.
The DIPoDIP Project (Diversity of Pollinating Diptera in Afrotropical Biodiversity Hotspots) is dedicated to improving taxonomy, identification, and understanding of fly species and their vital role in pollination ecology. This year’s cohort included participants from South Africa, Kenya, Burundi, Namibia, Tanzania, and Ethiopia - a truly special international collaboration!
What an honour to host this exceptional course at our very own Grootbos Environmental Centre.
A big shoutout to Neriyah, our superstar videographer, whose work captured the magic, learning, and impact of this experience. Watch the video here.
Together, we’re growing knowledge, strengthening conservation, and celebrating the remarkable biodiversity of our region.
