Trees for Tourism Program

Cliff Lodge

Cliff Lodge is a partner in the Trees for Tourism Program, an initiative of the South African Reforestation Trust.

Trees for Tourism creates forest eco-systems on behalf of the tourism industry in South Africa to counter-balance the tourism related carbon footprint. The program facilitates the donation by tourists and tourism related companies of indigenous trees to be planted in old woodland and appropriate degraded areas to re-create pristine forest eco-systems in South Africa, safeguarded for future generations.

Today we are standing at the threshold of an imminent crisis with rapid climate change, global warming and greenhouse effect. The earth is gradually losing its biodiversity as more and more animals are forced out of their natural habitat. The best way to check these adverse effects is reforestation.

Forests house a diverse range of plants and animals. They also provide a livelihood for a large number of people. Forests play an important role in maintaining the water cycle and preventing soil erosion. Most important of all, forests are vital in maintaining the balance of carbon dioxide and oxygen in the earth’s atmosphere.

Cliff Lodge supports this important biodiversity initiative by donating trees itself and by promoting the donation of trees by you, our guests.

Another project that is very dear to our heart is the Creative Skills Factory - a project that aims to promote a nurturing, safe and stimulating environment for children and young adults to explore their creative potential. This non-profit organisation provides holistic support to young children, their families, caregivers and their teachers in order to develop skills for life via educational, arts and cultural programs. They focus on early childhood education for children in disadvantaged communities, and this dedicated team do essential, much needed work to help children in South Africa to thrive.

For just R150 our guests are able to plant a tree and contribute towards the Creative Skills Factory’s work with children in the townships in our area. Plant a tree, and help a child to flourish.

If you wish to participate in this program, you can buy your own trees in what will become a pristine forest eco-system and contribute to a child’s well-being.
