It doesn’t matter where on our Gansbaai shoreline I have wandered this season, I am met by close up sightings of these Southern Right Whales, the gentle giants of the ocean. Moms and babies are everywhere and now in November, baby whales are jumping and splashing and slapping their flukes and fins just enjoying the prospect of their oceanic life.
The scientists have reported a bumper year with over 1100 whales counted along the coastline, over 500 of these, calves. We count ourselves very blessed to have these visitations every year and invite you from wherever you come from to come and walk along our coastline, board a boat or an aeroplane to enjoy this amazing whale experience. There is still some time left before the little universal clock rings for them to turn around and head back home.
Our deck and suite verandas at Saxon Lodge look over Walker Bay in Gansbaai where you can sit back and enjoy the view and perhaps catch a glimpse of some of the Southern Right Whales.
