Witvoetskloof Hike on 12 April 2025
Please note that from 1st April, I will be moving from email communication to WhatsApp for all notices. Please make sure you're on WhatsApp so you don't miss out on any updates!
Our next hike is to Witvoetskloof in the Grootbos Conservancy on Saturday, 12 April. A big thank you to Grootbos and their team for allowing us to use their beautiful venue and for preparing the course for us. We really appreciate their generosity.
Meeting time and place:
We will meet at Spar at 7:00 am. Please arrange carpooling among yourselves, ensuring that everyone has a lift in a vehicle with higher ground clearance. 4x4s are not necessary, but smaller cars like the Auris or Etios may struggle with the road up to Witvoetskloof. I have space for 2 in my vehicle.
Hike details:
The route is a mix of descents and climbs, some steep and technical for short distances. A walking stick will help for balance on these sections. Don't worry, but be cautious! The trail includes waterfalls, riverine afro-montane forest, milkwood forest, mountains, and fynbos. It's a little over 8.9 km and definitely worth the effort.
Fitness level: 6
Difficulty level: 6
The views include Kraaibosch Dam, Franskraal, Paardeberg, and Pearly Beach. There’s also unusual fynbos and plenty of birdlife to enjoy. We’ll have lunch in the shade, with trees to sit under.
I'll be sending a quick WhatsApp poll asking if you'll be attending, so I can give Grootbos an accurate headcount. Please respond with a simple Yes or No.
Looking forward to leading this hike and seeing you all at Spar for a fun and memorable day out!
Best regards,
Mike
