In 2012 we recognised the need for financial support amongst Gansbaai residents. We started Flower Power; a team of 4x4 enthusiasts that wanted to raise funds for our local charities, Flower Valley Eco School was the first charity that benefited from our efforts.
I registered this as a Police project, as that is part of my SAPS portfolio. Over the first 3 years our event grew from 37 to 75 participating vehicles. We have since also raised funds for Uilkraal Neighbourhood Watch.
This year our appreciation and thanks goes to Overberg Medical Response. They fulfil a very necessary, but thankless need by supporting SAPS and the community. All funds raised will be donated to them.
Our aim is to provide value for money, fun and entertainment, whilst boosting some well-deserved charity financially.
We will provide 4x4 routes and obstacle courses on the day; perlemoen potjie and light meals will be available to keep everyone fuelled for fun. There will be a lot of kids’ entertainment which include train rides, jumping castle & a slide; and don’t miss out on the lucky draw.
This year we are focussing on the obstacle course at Strandskloof Caravan Park. In the past we catered more for the sightseeing off roader by providing them with a choice of 4 routes; but this year they will only be able to do that on Panorama. The petrol heads can come and play at Strandskloof instead. There will also be tickets available for a spit braai and socializing with the crew afterwards. We can’t wait to have a lekka Flower Power 4 x 4 jol with you!

Event Details:
Entry is R250 per vehicle (pre-booking by EFT). On day of the event: R350
Registration time is from 07.00am, departures from 08.00am
Routes and ratings:
1. Strandskloof route and Obstacle course: some mud, sand, scenic mountain route (unofficial rating: 2)
2. Panorama rock: sand scenic mountain route (unofficial rating: 2-3....depending on weather conditions )
The above mentioned routes are all vehicle friendly routes, when driven responsibly. Limited experience acceptable on all routes. Slippery under foot conditions levels out the playing field to an extent. All the routes have guides and recovery personnel. Photographers along the routes will be trying to catch you in action, in order to publish the day's events on our Facebook page: Flower Power.
