Gaia - Our Penguin Advocate at Saxon Lodge
Gaia, the earth goddess tells the story of how we came to be, she talks about the incredible journey of the universe from a tight nothingness and then 13.8 billion years ago, the big bang an explosion into everything and that this journey of creation continues expanding and creating. Then through many iterations of ‘Goldilocks’ moments - those moments when everything is just right - new and wonderous creations appear forming galaxies, stars and planets. Over 4.5 billion years ago, our solar system and home, Earth, was born from this process and has evolved over these billions of years and its own Goldilocks moments to be a planet which we as humans have come to inhabit alongside all of nature - plants, trees, animals great and small, water and soil, mountains and plains. Everything we need to survive and prosper is at our fingertips and yet, here we are on the threshold of disaster, species forced out of existence by our avarice, plastic and pollution suffocating our critical resources, wars and discord between and within nations, disease and scarcity in an expanding and rich universe.
Sadly, or perhaps fortunately, this is it, this is all we have, this planet, this earth, our home for 2500 years in our current form, a mere blip on the radar, close to the end of the road. We brought ourselves here, we are equipped with incredible minds and creativity we can as easily turn this around. It will need all our effort and attention. We don’t have time to argue the merits of the discussion or whether one belief is more important than another, we don’t have time to consider or interpret sacred texts to understand, we don’t have time to debate about what needs to be done, we don’t have time to wait for better governments and more conscious and aware people. We make a decision, make a choice for the planet, we make a choice for life, we make a choice to take new actions, to change what we do to be better inhabitants of this planet, to live in harmony with nature, as a part of nature. We make a choice to continue our species on earth alongside all others, living peacefully, compassionately and with love. My challenge to you today! What choices can you make today that are different from anything you have done before that intends to support Gaia in her efforts to be the proverbial Garden of Eden again.
It’s up to each one of us to make changes in our lives that support our planet, our home. Start today. Come visit Gaia, who has a story to tell you and the other 7 cool penguins in Gansbaai. All supporting a message of conservation and environmental ambassadorship. David Christian created a great site to learn about ‘Big History’. The story of life, the universe and where it appears to be heading and this was the inspiration for our artist, Warren Stegmann, who painted this story onto Gaia.
Saxon Lodge is proud to be a sponsor of Gansbaai Penguin Campaign aimed at bringing awareness to the plight of our penguins and to the environment in which we live and do business.
Glenda Kitley, manager of Gansbaai Tourism, had this to say, “The objective is simple: Follow the penguins, discover the places, taste the food, and experience the moments, that the greater Gansbaai area has to offer. Gansbaai area is known as the Natural Adventure Destination and is renowned for the Marine Big Five, blissful beaches, fynbos, fabulous food and fine wine, and much more. Plot your penguin route, place yourself in the penguin picture and present the penguin proof. The penguins are sure to delight young and old and hopefully the real ones will enthral.” #saxonlodge; #saxonlodgegansbaai; #gansbaaiaccommodation; #gansbaaipenguins; #everypenguincounts; #gansbaaitourism; #responsibletourism
