Spring Flower Meander on Heritage Day
The Pearly Beach Conservancy hosted a walk through the Strandveld vegetation of Pearly Beach on Heritage Day to celebrate the village’s natural heritage. The weather was sunny and warm and the spring flowers along the coast were wide open to greet us. The tide was just right for the beach part of the walk. On the beach we even had the privilege of meeting a Cape fur seal. Since the Overstrand Municipality has postponed the mowing of road verges until after the flowering season, many different flowers were on show in the village (the Esplanade in particular). As usual, we ended up picking up several shopping bags full of rubbish as well. The Conservancy also took this opportunity to officially inaugurate its green flags and its fresh new, multilingual logo featuring the iconic black oystercatcher.
