Fisherhaven

Fisherhaven › Hermanus › Western Cape › South Africa

Fisherhaven is a quiet, peaceful suburb on the banks of the Bot River lagoon where the majority of homes belong to holidaymakers. The few thousand inhabitants who live here permanently have chosen the relaxed lifestyle over the bustle of central Hermanus.

Community life centres around the Fisherhaven Yacht Club on the lagoon where sailors, ski-boat enthusiasts and social members gather for monthly braai evenings and weekend socialising.

The lagoon and mountains beyond provide a spectacular backdrop to the settlement and a pathway alongside the water meanders through Fynbos and outstanding birding habitats.

Facilities are limited to a café providing basic provisions, a pub and a little fish and chips shop. Most of the permanent population is retired but actively involved in community life while the younger crowd who work in Hermanus have a 15-minute drive to get into “town”.
