At the entrance to the R320, the road that runs through the Hemel en Aarde Valley to Caledon, is the Hemel en Aarde Village and Hemel en Aarde Estate, a commercial and residential development respectively. If you follow the winding road through the Valley you will be rewarded with stellar wine farms that produce award-winning wines.
The Hemel-en-Aarde Village accommodates a variety of businesses around a peaceful, lush garden courtyard including one of the best wine stores in the country. Restaurants, interior-design shops, art galleries, two wine cellars and a nursery add to the appeal of this “village” and make it worth a visit as an easily accessible, convenient centre for residents of the valley.
The residential development on the opposite side of the road, the Hemel-en-Aarde Estate, has mushroomed over the past 10 years with 300 of the 360 erven already constructed. About 50% of the residents of the estate live here permanently whilst the rest are holiday homes for South Africans or “swallows” from the UK and Europe, who spend their summers in Hermanus.
This lifestyle in a security complex offers the best facilities in a residential development in the area, with a clubhouse, large pool, a bar and restaurant, tennis and squash courts, children’s playground, sauna and steam rooms. The freehold properties are governed by a board of trustees.
