Zwelihle
The township of Zwelihle has burgeoned over the past decade or two and is currently home to about 22 000 people. The older, established section of the township accommodates Lukhanyo Primary School, the clinic, the SOFCA facility for the aged, several crèches, the police station, doctors’ rooms and a lively restaurant and bar.
The Overstrand Municipality has developed several projects of commercial activity in Zwelihle. They are working to create safer pedestrian access to transport and small business opportunities in areas where crowds move through on a daily basis.
Community life centres around dozens of small churches, which are mostly Christian. There is a public library, a public swimming pool, a soccer stadium with tennis courts and large community hall.
A second, new primary school was built recently and pupils from the two schools can attend the Qhayiya High School or one of the secondary schools in Hermanus or Hawston.
