Understanding Depression

Depression affects millions of people, yet it’s often misunderstood. Recognizing the signs can be the first step to healing.

Signs and Symptoms

Depression isn’t just about feeling sad; it’s a persistent low mood that impacts daily life. It can include:

• Difficulty concentrating
• Feelings of guilt or hopelessness
• Changes in appetite or sleep patterns
• Low energy or fatigue
• Thoughts of self-harm or suicide

If these symptoms persist for over two weeks, it could be a sign of a depressive episode.

Taking Control

If you or a loved one is experiencing these symptoms:

• Reach out to a doctor or mental health professional.
• Consider joining support groups for extra help and connection.
• Call 0800 456 789, a 24-hour counseling line, for immediate support.
