Grootbos Foundation’s Social Canoeing: Teaching Water Safety and Lifesaving Skills

Last week, our coaches welcomed a group of eager beginner paddlers with a basic water safety lesson - a vital skill for life in our coastal region!

Water safety is the first step before children can join our Beginner’s Canoe Programme or Shewana Surf Therapy. Our trained coaches ensure safety in pools, rivers, and tidal pools, helping young learners gain confidence in the water.

Watch as one young paddler completes his first lesson, his strong kick got him safely to the bank! Our coaches also introduced essential water safety rules, ensuring every child understands how to stay safe.

From here, our beginner canoeists will always wear life jackets as they embark on their water adventure journey!
