Meet the Wildlife of Grootbos
Bushbuck (Tragelaphus sylvaticus)
Grootbos is home to the most western distribution of bushbuck. The name comes from tragus, meaning goat and sylvaticus, meaning “of the forest.”
Our bushbuck males are almost jet black, a striking contrast to the lighter brown males found elsewhere in Africa. This elegant male struts proudly, showing off his beautiful markings on the reserve.

Cape Grysbok
This is an adult male Cape grysbok, one of the special, shy creatures you may be lucky enough to spot. They are often seen in the firebreaks on the reserve, keeping an eye out before disappearing into the fynbos.
