Empowering Youth Through Sport and Connection
At Grootbos Foundation, we believe in the power of sport to inspire, educate, and create lasting change. From classroom achievements to surf sessions that build confidence and trust, our youth programmes continue to open pathways for personal growth, leadership, and community impact.

Celebrating Achievement!
Congratulations to Siya Kolpati, who has just completed the Laureus Youth Empowerment through Sport (YES) programme with an NQF Level Qualification in Sports Administration through the Exercise Teachers and Training Academy.
We are incredibly proud of this young man, who first joined the Stanford Canoeing Programme in 2016, and is now turning his passion for sport into a career pathway as a community coach.

Meet the Class of 2025!
Here are the inspiring Laureus YES Graduates, a group of young leaders using sport as a tool for growth, empowerment, and community transformation.

From the sports programme to the surf!
Our new Shewana Surf Therapy group began with floating in pairs, a powerful exercise that builds both skill and trust.
- Partnership: Two individuals support one another as they take turns learning to float.
- Skill: Floating forms the foundation for water safety and overcoming aquaphobia.
- Confidence: The partner system builds trust in oneself and the water.
- Shared Learning: “When one teaches, two learn.” Each moment in the water is an opportunity for mutual growth.

Sessions in action!
You can see the group in 2x2 sessions, building confidence, teamwork, and a shared sense of calm through every float and wave.
