The AGM of the Pearly Beach Conservancy was held on 18 December 2015. On this occasion, the Chairman Jason Stonehewer called on everyone present to do their bit in becoming more environmentally responsible. He also summarized the activities of the Management Committee, which included special projects such as the Black Oystercatcher Count, the Otter Watch, the Tortoise Monitoring Project and the compilation of a booklet about Pearly Beach.

The Conservancy and the Committee were saddened to say goodbye to Helie Mostert and Steve Peck. Both have left an indelible mark on the Fynbos Centre and Garden. The Treasurer Gerald Henrici presented the audited books and the budget for 2016. The standing committee members were re-elected (Jason Stonehewer, Elrina Versfeld, Gerald Henrici, Beatriz Bollmann, Anneke Potgieter, Irna van Zyl, Susanne Fuchs). Ivy Hartman and Sheryll Steyn were warmly welcomed as new members. Suretha Cloete was co-opted for special projects. The guest speakers Sue and Dave Whitelaw gave a very personal account of their experiences of “Fire in the Fynbos” at their nature reserve in the Kleynhagelkraal area near Pearly Beach. A lively discussion followed at the end of the meeting which addressed topics such as driving on beaches, dogs on beaches, social responsibility, oystercatchers, peacocks, hadedas and more.

Anyone wishing to join the Conservancy or visit the Fynbos Centre and Garden in Pearly Beach is most welcome to do so. The Conservancy can be contacted at 028 381 9080.
