Challenges

• In South Africa 80,000 children under the age of 5 die annually as a result of avoidable diseases per annum. Most of these children could have been saved through targeted health education and community training.
• Developmental abnormalities, hearing or visual disorders as well as signs of sexual abuse and violence are not recognised.
• Currently foetal alcohol syndrome occupies a unique role because it is not curable, but 100% preventable.
• Children die from the complications of well-known diseases such as stomach, intestinal and airway infections from a lack of hygiene and malnourishment.
• Government vaccinations, medications and routine visits to clinics are not being accessed due to the lack of insight into information.

Motivation

• Solutions such as digital applications, and digital online training help to provide accessible, high-quality care around the world.
• Impactful in low-income areas where care provided by highly trained individuals is not as common.
• Empower individual patients by enabling them to manage their own health.
• Reduce the strain on healthcare professionals and facilities in low-resource settings.

Project Components

1. Access to health education, knowledge and awareness for the community, providing information on the most important diseases via Digital Applications.
2. On-site training programmes for Health promoters and advisory systems within each community to enhance and improve medical knowledge. Utilising a Health Trainer and Digital Devices for each registered student to access the e-learning portal.
3. Providing equal access to health knowledge and training by combining community health seminars and practical workshops.
