Protecting Coastal Biodiversity: Grootbos Foundation's Rooikrans Removal Initiative
This is the environment where a team of Biodiversity Stewards are doing the back-breaking work of removing invasive rooikrans from the Walker Bay Nature Reserve which is public land managed by Cape Nature. Dune by dune, the invasive plants are removed by hand, giving endemic plants the chance to reclaim this coastal region ahead of the winter rains. Walker Bay Nature Reserve is also a member of the Walker Bay Fynbos Conservancy. This is a team of capable, strong women who have the skills and are motivated by their understanding of conservation targets to which their work contributes.
