March Hikes with Strandveld Hiking Club
We have two exciting hikes lined up for the month of March as we enjoy the tail end of Summer.
First Hike:
Platbos Forest on 8th March
Platbos is one of the few remaining Afro Montane forests in Africa, and it’s the southernmost of them all! This beautiful and somewhat challenging hike will take us up the adjoining mountain for stunning views over the paleo dunes. The walk is 8.2km, with a 1000m climb on a jeep track and easy walking through the forest. It’s a hot hike, so don’t forget your fluids, snacks, hats, and sunblock! There’s a sweet mountain spring halfway to refresh you. Platbos has asked for a donation of R30 per person for their forest maintenance, and an honesty box will be available.
We will meet at 7:00 AM at the Spar parking lot in Gansbaai to sign indemnities and organize carpooling. Because parking is limited at Platbos, please arrange to share rides wherever possible.
Second Hike:
Farm 215 on 22nd March
Details to be confirmed, but we’re confident it will be happening!
