Gansbaai Public Meeting: Eskom Issues (Wards 1, 11 and 14)
GREATER GANSBAAIWARD 1, WARD 11 AND WARD 14PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT MEETING ANNOUNCED
Dear Residents of Greater Gansbaai,
Over the past weeks, our communities have experienced ongoing challenges relating to Eskom power outages and electricity supply disruptions. I have given this matter considerable thought and cannot help but feel deeply for the plight of our residents, businesses, and even councillors who themselves live within these affected areas.
It is also important to note that many of the Eskom-related electricity challenges affecting Eskom direct supply areas are longstanding concerns that residents have faced for a number of years, with recurring outages and infrastructure-related issues continuing to impact the community.
It is therefore important that we engage directly with the community in an open and constructive manner.
I hereby invite all Eskom direct customers and affected residents of Greater Gansbaai, specifically residents within Ward 1, Ward 11 and Ward 14, to attend a public engagement meeting where we will openly discuss the Eskom-related electricity challenges facing the community, the steps currently being taken, and possible ways forward.
The meeting will be attended by myself, together with the Senior Manager for Electrical Services of Overstrand Municipality, Mr George Lotter. Your ward councillors will also be in attendance as part of the delegation.
MEETING DETAILS:
Venue: Gansbaai Tourism office
Date: Friday, 19 June 2026
Time: 15h00
During the meeting, we will:
* Provide feedback on engagements with Eskom;• Explain the role and limitations of Overstrand Municipality regarding Eskom infrastructure;• Listen directly to the concerns and experiences of residents; and• Explore possible solutions and constructive proposals together as a community.
We believe that transparent communication and community participation are essential during times such as these, and we encourage all affected residents to attend and participate in the discussions.
We look forward to engaging with the community and working together in the best interests of all residents.
Kind regards,
Cllr Clinton Lerm
