Funky Fynbos Festival

Fynbos, a fun-filled tractor trip, and great wine – that’s all part of the Funky Fynbos Festival activities on Flower Valley Conservation Trust’s farm in 2015.

The Funky Fynbos Festival allows locals and visitors alike to celebrate the region’s special fynbos and the animals it hides, like the Cape Leopard. One of the best ways to experience this unique asset is by traveling through it – on a tractor – with a local guide giving insight into the essence of the Fynbos Biome.

That’s what visitors at the Funky Fynbos Festival can expect on the Fynbos Safaris, organised by Flower Valley Conservation Trust. Flower Valley, a local non-governmental organisation, promotes fynbos conservation and healthy fynbos landscapes.

Flower Valley Farm, the home of the Trust, is part of the Funky Fynbos Festival, and is neighbour to De Uijlenes – the sporting hub of the festival. The trail running and mountain bike races start at De Uijlenes, and cross Flower Valley Farm. The farm is also a biodiversity hotspot, protecting fynbos species found nowhere else in the world.

The Fynbos Safaris will start at De Uijlenes. With a guide leading the Safaris, visitors can enjoy a laidback trip through the farm’s fynbos and forests. The trip includes spectacular views. Select trips will also stop off at the Flower Valley peaks – for a chance to experience the fynbos with a glass of wine and a cheese platter.

The Trust will also be present at De Uijlenes, giving visitors the chance to adopt a hectare of Flower Valley Farm. The Trust recently launched its Adopt a Hectare campaign for 2016. Aside from the rare fynbos species, Flower Valley Farm also offers protection to a resident Cape Leopard male, as well as many smaller antelope, like Bushbuck and Klipspringers, and mammals, like the Honey Badger and Genet. For more, visit the Funky Fynbos Festival between 18-20 September; or visit: www.flowervalley.org.za.
