APSS's First Penguin Release

African Penguin & Seabird Sanctuary

The penguins were admitted to APSS very underweight and somewhat dehydrated. After 3 weeks of rehabilitation they were ready to be released, each having reached optimal weight of 3+ kilograms and ready for the big ocean again.

We launched from he Kleinbaai harbour with the whale watching vessel, the 'Whale Whisperer", belonging to Dyer Island Cruises. It was a short boat ride to Dyer Island where the penguins were released and we watched as they swam off to join the rest of the African Penguin colony on the island.

The African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary depends heavily upon donations, encourages the active participation of people who share our love for wildlife, and want to see it protected for future generations - This is how you can help
