The court case everyone has been waiting for with bated breath will be starting this week. The battle over the legality of Whale hunting will be decided at the UN’s top court and Japan is ready for a fight.
The hearings will be taking place at the International Court of Justice in the Hague where Canberra and Tokyo will commence to battle it out. The Australian Government has been fighting for almost 20 years now to bring an end to the whaling programme in Japan to no avail. Each is determined in their argument and the outcome will be one that reaches not only the parties fighting but also that and what they are fighting for.
Japan is standing their ground and defending the fact that they purely hunt for scientific research. The rebuttal by Australia is that despite their claims the meat from the ‘scientifically hunted’ whales still ends up on the plates of the Japanese. The Japanese still also defends the eating of whale meat as a culinary tradition and plans to bring these views to light as it can be understood by the court.
We continue to wait in anticipation and hope for the best outcome for the poor defenceless animals involved.
