The Football Foundation’s U11 Soccer Boys gathered at the Gansbaai Sport Field on Saturday to celebrate Freedom Day and play two soccer matches. The U11’s competed against the Young Early Birds, all from the Masakhane community. Both teams divided once more so that four teams were created to take the field for two 40 minute matches. The Foundation’s team won the first game 2-1 and won the second game 4-1. Following the matches, the Football Foundation’s volunteers presented the kids with food, water and an important message about Freedom Day. Each boy was able to draw a Freedom Day quotation from a dish and was also given a South African flag coloured hand made bracelet. Most important, it was evident that the boys enjoyed themselves on this sunny day at the field and took the time to acknowledge their personal freedom and the 19 years of South Africa’s freedom.
