After years spent holidaying in Pearly Beach, they decided to trade city life for a slightly more tranquil lifestyle and migrated down to the coast for good in April 2018.

Gavin, Willie and Nicolette have a special place in their hearts for the locals who they say, all collaborated with them to help build the restaurant.

"Isn’t it just marvellous, when you take a day trip and stumble on something super unique? This is just what happened to us on our last trip to Pearly Beach. We had dropped our daughter off with Sarah at Gansbaai and Pearly Beach Horse Trails for a beach ride, and with food in mind we had a few hours to kill. As luck would have it, an American couple joined the ride and mentioned they had just had a lovely meal at The Fynbos Deck, BUT, it was closing at 15:00. We decided to take a chance and see if we could get a really quick meal. Arriving there at 14:50 we went upstairs for a quick recce and were greeted at the door by Gavin and Nicolette. On mentioning to them that we were interested in having a meal, Gavin silently disappeared for a few seconds and came back with a broad smile asking where we’d like to be seated. Him and Nicolette then proceeded to give us the best service, food and company that we’d had in a long time – unhurried, thanks to chef Willie’s willingness to keep the kitchen open on a Sunday afternoon.

The meal began with a craft gin and tonic for me, and a craft beer for hubby, brought to the table with their inhouse-baked bread. The starter we ordered was the carrot and apple soup with a slight touch of curry – something neither of us had eaten before, but sure will again!

For mains hubby ordered the fabulously tasty Moroccan lamb curry which came with basmati rice and freshly picked veggies. I had the smoked trout which was served with roast potatoes covered in a béchamel sauce, fresh al dente vegetables and a side salad. The food was both beautifully presented by chef Willie and incredibly tasty – not a morsel left on either plate.

Regrettably, we had dinner arrangements, so we didn’t partake in dessert, which leaves a welcome opening to revisit this establishment, as the dessert menu looked fabulous, and Gavin was sure to mention that’s an area where chef Willie excels – can’t wait!

The wine list is small, yet affordable and the ambiance is just perfect. They’ve really put some thought into the décor which offers a comfy space, yet very well appointed with just a touch of funk.

This trio of Gavin, Nicolette and chef Willie have only recently joined our ranks in the Western Cape from Gauteng, with the restaurant newly built by themselves and opened since November of 2018. All three of them have extensive experience in the food and hospitality trade, so you know you’re in excellent hands."
"Considering the size of Pearly Beach, we never understood why this place did not have a decent restaurant. But finally - here is Fynbos. A very original place, with a beautiful interior and the nicest possible owners and staff. The food was really good, without being overly fancy, the wine list not long but with everything you need and without being overpriced (please keep it this way). Delicious deserts. This is a restaurant that makes you want to return on many occasions - and we will certainly do exactly this: Return whenever we get a chance. If there was one thing they could improve: The espresso was not great, troppo lungo and not strong enough.
Oh - and we appreciate very much that our children were welcome as well."
"Wonderful ambiance, great view and cosy. Stuffed pork fillet was excellent. Baked cheesecake and lindt chocolate tart delicious! Excellent local winelist - Lomond and Spookfontein. All and all a great experience. Attentive and caring hosts"
"We visited the very upmarket almost fine dining restaurant in Pearly Beach on a Saturday afternoon on a long weekend. And what a surprise! Very friendly staff and very knowlegable owner. Food was absolutly great and very reasonably priced. Ambiance perfect and decor to die for. The owner knows how to make guests feel welcome! Worth a fisit if you are in the area and want want to feel like you are in a upmarket Cape Town restaurant. Thank you for this wonderfull experience."

"This restaurant in PB is truly a supreme and excellent diamond among the fynbos.
The location and view is wonderful. The decor indeed fine dining status and the food , in my opinion could match many a eat out award winning restaurant.

The service is specialised, personal and well done.

This is a Must go to.on your list if your in the area."

"We stopped there in the early afternoon for coffee and some cake from the dessert menu. Lovely tasteful decorated restaurant and probably the best cheesecake in the Southern Hemisphere. The Amarula Apple Tart is worth trying, too... We love the vintage VW theme. Had a nice chat with the staff and got very good tips and information on the area."
