Book Launch: Uit die Bloute by Chanette Paul

Gansbaai Book Exchange

Gansbaai Book Exchange was buzzing at the recent book launch of Uit die Bloute written by renowned author, Chanette Paul. Owner of Gansbaai Book Exchange, Nicolette Bosch, welcomed everyone with a few laughs as always. Introducing her 44th published book, Chanette was joined by Heino du Plessis, Marketing and Communications from Lapa Publishers. Heino led the discussion and questions. He mentioned that the book had been very well received and reviewed by even the toughest critics - Heino made reference to the column by Jonathan Amid. Uit die Bloute's main character, Jojo Richter, follows on from Chanette's previous book Paaiboelie, yet stands alone for readers who are meeting her work for the first time.

Chanette has lived with her partner in Stanford for the past fifteen years. She loves the research process when working on a book and once she has a story she can write fairly quickly. The most books she has written in a year is six. Chanette wrote Uit die Bloute in nine months. Of course, her retreat to her secret place for a few weeks at a time helps this process. Whilst she has written many a  romance novel, her latest books fall into the suspense genre. Fascinated by relationships and character, Chanette considers herself an organic writer who does not know from the outset where the characters will take the story. As such the truth often emerges at the end of the book. "The story must just unfold otherwise my creative juices run dry. How the characters play the game with one another is fascinating," says Chanette. "I trust my readers and my readers trust me and this allows me to take risks with my writing like I have done in Uit die Bloute. People who believe in the extraterrestrial have always fascinated me and the book relates to real phenomena as discovered in my research." Heino added that the research, in this case, was faultless.

Chanette's books have been sold not only in South Africa but the American market has now been introduced to her through the translation of Offerande to Sacrificed. Chanette is an avid reader and enjoys a book most evenings.

Besides the lovely Chanette Paul, Gansbaai Book Exchange would like to thank the following for a lovely evening:

  • Lapa Publishers - Heino du Plessis
  • Du Toitskloof Wine
  • Catering: Elzanne Bosch and Jean-Mare van Eck
