Francois de Jongh, Uitgewer: Gansbaai Courant, het in ‘n boek uit toeka se dae, die Africanderisms: A glossary of South African colloquial words and phrases (1913), die volgende interessante inligting uitgewys: Die woord “Hangberger” word soos volg beskryf: “A Cape Peninsula name for the Hottentot fish, sometimes corrupted to Hamburger. Fleming ascribes the name to the fact of the fish ‘being chiefly taken in deep water, near a place called Hangberg (overhanging rock)’; others derive the name from the fish’s habit of frequenting rocky ledges". Dus blyk dit dat “Hangberger” die oudste naam vir ‘n hotnotvis is, ‘n feit wat min mense waarskynlik van bewus is.
