After many years of planning, the organisers are very excited to launch the Klipspringer Mountain Bike Trail MBT on the Walker Bay Fynbos Conservancy.
This is the first in a series of new mountain biking routes that will be launched within the conservancy during 2017.
The Klipspringer MBT is a 30km circular route traversing five private properties within the Walker Bay Fynbos Conservancy. The route can be started either from Lomond Wine Farms’ new tasting room facility or from the Flower Valley Farm.
A day permit costs R40 and is acquired through an honesty box system at the two starting points. An annual permit costs R300, which is a great option for local riders.
The ride includes some jeep track, some single track and quiet farm roads, it is quite challenging and is classified as a black route on the basis of its terrain and difficulty. The route has been cut by local unemployed youth through funding from the Conservancy, Overstrand Municipality and Extended Public Works Program.
For mountain bikers looking for some challenging routes in the Overberg, this is going to be a great way to explore our beautiful fynbos-clad mountains.
The Conservancy is looking forward to adding different route variations, including some easier family focussed options during 2017.
